The Peter Lim Sports Ignite Grant
In 2022, Peter Lim committed S$680,000 to the Peter Lim Sports Ignite Grant to provide children and youth from less privileged backgrounds with the platform to gain exposure, pursue their interests and support their skills development, with a focus on sports.
backgrounds with the platform to gain exposure, pursue their interests and support their skills development, with a focus on sports.
The Peter Lim Sports Ignite Grant represents Mr Lim’s desire to help children and youth from less privileged backgrounds in the community as well as his continued commitment to the development of Singapore sport. The funds from the Peter Lim Sports Ignite Grant will primarily be used for the following:
- providing children and youth with exposure to sports that are not usually accessible to them in order to expand their repertoire of knowledge, skills and experiences;
- empowering girls to pursue their interests in sports and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) where there is typically lower female representation, helping them to develop the related knowledge and skills to excel while building character in the process; and
- developing children and youth into athletes by equipping them with necessary equipment and providing training for selected individuals.
The funds from the Peter Lim Sports Ignite Grant will be administered through The Hut over 5 years from 2023 – 2027. Beneficiaries of the Peter Lim Sports Ignite Grant are expected to include children and youth who are from lower-resourced families and who are members of The Hut. The Hut is a children and youth centre (5 to 17 years old) nestled in Marine Parade constituency, with an emphasis to elevate those who are from lower-resourced backgrounds.
The Hut provides a community for children and youth to feel safe, belonged and supported. They run drop-in, educational programmes as well as whole-child developmental programmes so that every child can grow and flourish in their unique pathways. The Hut also encourages their children and youth to contribute and serve actively so that they can go on to transform the lives of others.
